Hi Jan; Welcome to Savage world. If you like big thumpers you will love this one. The de-compressor device is very important to starter life. It takes a lot of the load off of the electric motor and clutch. See the Clymer manual for instructions on how to adjust it. One thing I experienced with my Savage was the starter button at the handlebar sticking in and keeping the starter motor running after the engine had started. Fortunately no damage, but I'm sure there could have been if I had not shut it off quickly. Overall, if you keep things adjusted, the bike is quite reliable and long lived. Take care and enjoy.
